Joe Headon explains... Our analysis shows that currently all the roads lead to the town centre, which at times can impact on the town centre. One of our key moves in considering the plan is how we can relieve the town centre, and in doing so, create vibrant hubs that will complement the existing town centre. Our plan shows two new hubs within our development and the potential for a new hub in the future at Craigtoun, linking to the existing Hub at Morrisons and the New Hospital. It also shows that in the longer term future, it may be possible to create a link from the new hospital to join with the A 917 road that takes you to the East Neuk. This, however is not part of our proposals.

Protecting the historic Skyline, and framing what we consider to be the most significant spires and towers in the skyline, is achieved by positioning one of the main roads as it comes off the Strathkinness High Rd, so that it directly lines up with St Salvators tower. A number of other roads will service the development, with a key link from the A91 around to join with the Craigtoun Rd. It also allows new linkages to be provided to ensure the new development integrates well with the existing community. The site lies between the Swilken and Kinness burn, which have a strong planted woodlands, and we propose that we link these two woodlands with new planting between the two burns. As well as providing an opportunity to link the burns through a well-designed woodland, the opportunity exists in the NW corner of the link to create much more. Playing fields, open woodland areas, allotments and orchards can all be created within this space.

The green dotted line from the new central hub, within our proposed development and the existing town centre, indicates pedestrian and cycle routes promoting an environmentally friendly and healthy lifestyle link. < Back
